Mentorship for Neurodiversity
In this part of the conversation, Sam reflects on the importance of surrounding yourself with supportive people when exploring neurodiversity and embarking on a journey of self-acceptance. He shares how, following some difficult transitions, connecting with friends with whom he could be himself and share openly was truly valuable. Sam emphasizes how crucial it is to seek out relationships and communities where you feel understood and cared for.
Sam also talks about joining a group coaching program specifically for creative neurodivergent individuals, led by Louisa Shirey and called Solar Siblings. Participating in this program has provided him with both structure and community—a space to find shared understanding, peer support, and guidance from an experienced coach with lived neurodivergent experience. Sam credits this framework of support as deeply beneficial and even life-changing on his personal journey.
Additionally, Sam recommends Autistica, the UK’s largest autism research organization, as another great resource. Autistica provides in-depth research, webinars, and advocacy, particularly focused on improving employment opportunities for autistic people by addressing systemic barriers. Sam highlights Autistica’s work with the UK government on employment initiatives, and notes their website and resources will be linked below the video for those interested in learning more.
